The MagnaPrint Series consists of republications of Danish and translated literature in a reader-friendly concept for people with visual impairment. It is published by Nyt Dansk Litteraturselskab, originally in collaboration with Borgens Forlag.
The cover with the flower and hand-drawn typography was designed by Poul Gernes in 1971-2. For MagnaPrint books 1-499, the flower was the only illustration on the front cover, and the color scheme varied from title to title. From 1978, back covers also featured original author portraits, drawn by Poul Gernes.
After Poul Gernes’ death in 1996 until 2003, colours for each title were chosen by Aase Gernes. From MagnaPrint title 500, the covers carry different illustrations, but the flower can still be seen on front and back.
Klara Karolines Fond has donated the artists’ free copies, drawings and other material relating to the MagnaPrint Series to Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg.
