Finn Thybo Andersen on Hedegård School
”Art Week at Hedegård School. 1000 arms and legs” was the school’s initiative to a site-specific art project that could be done by the children. 480 children in the ages 10-15 were divided into teams with teachers as ”foremen.” The work was led by artists from the artists’ collective Arme & Ben (Arms & Legs), who had developed proposals and process descriptions in advance. Poul Gernes’ contributions were full-body sized plaster figures, and ceiling rugs, that is, lengths of fabric that were cut and sewn with floral motifs, and hung under the ceilings. The whole array disappeared in 1998, when the school burned to the ground.
